Jason David Frank (Dr. Tommy Oliver) can be seen in The Fall Guy, http://www.fallguymovie.com. Watch
for it, it's coming soon. Jason Frank will be playing a character named John, whose character somehow ends up directing "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers". The movie promises to have lots of action. For more on it, go to the website.

Archie Kao (Kai Chen) was again on this past week's episode of ER on NBC.

The Blizzard Force Megazord has been seen on store shelves.

The movie Sean CW Johnson was in (I believe it's like Survivor where someone wins a million bucks) called "My Little Eye" will be making its way to DVD this Tuesday, the 27th.

EPISODE 12: "WHITE THUNDER, PART II" REVIEW
Posted by TimJohnson on
April 25, 2004 @ 8:09 PM

The White Ranger mini-series is centered around the White Dino Ranger. This episode, they essentially centered it on a Dino Egg, but it does set up a pretty good Part 3 next week.

ON TARGET

They're doing a very good job with Trent struggling between his two personas.

The kid Cassidy got fooled by did an effective job in his role, even if the kid's voice sounded a little funny. Kids on Power Rangers haven't done too well mainly because they've mainly been portrayed differently than your average kid. It was great to see a "kid being a kid" and was very entertaining to see. Cassidy and Devin do a good job of mixing their personalities with nearly everyone.

How much longer are they going to keep these one-sided battles between Dr. Oliver and Zeltrax? Clearly today was a good time to create one, because giving away any action between Dr. Oliver and the White Ranger would take away from Part 3.

I've always been a big fan of cliffhangers ending with a staredown. It's much better than ending with, "What are we going to do?" like other Power Ranger series in the past. I'm sure viewers at home are anticipating the Thundersaurus Megazord and Drago Zord fight. I've always thought the best way to keep viewers drawn to the show is to leave events at the end of the episode that are sure to entice viewers to see the conculsion of the event during the next episode.

OFF TARGET

As much as it was a good excuse to prevent Dr. Oliver from confronting the White Ranger, I thought they would rest the battles between Dr. Oliver and Zeltrax for awhile like they did last episode. Clearly Zeltrax is getting nothing from losing to Dr. Oliver, except for telling us he has something against him which has given us no hints on what the heck he is talking about.

I understand they have to get every Zord Bandai has marketed in their toy line, but they did a sloppy job if introducing the Parasaur Zord.

STUFF TO THINK ABOUT (Some rhetorically)

Since white and black are not officially part of a rainbow, who do you think the White Ranger meant when he said there would be only one color left in the rainbow?

So there's a school just for grammar?

Did you just know it was going to be a fake when Cassidy told us the guy is "totally reliable" and she got it for "virtually nothing"?

Is Devin getting smarter?

You know Ethan's a hardcore gamer when he's talking about a game you have no idea existed...

Wasn't Hayley's statement on Grippleshank to Ethan right on the money?

Since "Hayley's Cyberspace" is designed for teens to hang out, wouldn't it be wise to use plastic cupware for obvious reasons?

Has anyone seen anyone else beside Hayley and Trent work the cafe?

Have you ever heard of a little kid getting someone to film him, getting on a computer, then making a DVD of it?

So if Trent is getting some time off, will we finally see another worker at Hayley's Cyberspace?

So did Ethan and Dr. Oliver discuss about Ethan's dino easter theory?

Boy is Zeltrax the slowest villian to comprehend anything?

Was anyone hoping Dr. Oliver and the White Ranger would go at it?

And was anyone disappointed when Zeltrax came into the picture?

Wouldn't it be cool if the upcoming battle between the Drago Zord and the Thundersaurus Megazord were on Pay-Per-View?

Will Maberry of ErinCahill.com reports that Erin Cahill (Jen in Time Force) will be hosting a show on Spike TV sometime in July. Spike TV has ordered 10 shows will the possibility for the show to be extended.

Emma Lahana's (Kira Ford) official website has a message for her fans. Notably, it appears Power Rangers producer Doug Sloan is helping her with her music career. She has plans to go into music after Dino Thunder has finished production.

Several readers submitted the following: For you parents, don't give out your eBay user id/password to your children unless you REALLY trust them. In England, a kid bid 750,000 pounds ($1,340,698.46 US) for a Deluxe Kongazord. I think I paid $40 for it at Toys "R" Us. Funny thing is that it was on April 1st (April Fool's Day). (LINK)

EPISODE 11: "WHITE THUNDER, PART I" REVIEW
Posted by TimJohnson on
April 19, 2004 @ 1:07 AM

I thought today's episode was pretty good. It didn't offer much surprise as to who would become a Ranger, but they did do a good job of how "this" person become a Ranger and his two-sided character now.

ON TARGET

The stuff with Cassidy and Devin gives their characters something to do while the White Ranger story develops. Hopefully they won't just abandon their mission or make it end prematurely because the last time someone learned the identity of a Power Ranger was "Silvy" in Power Rangers In Space and we know how that went...

They're taking the Trent/Anton Mercer relationship very slowly. For some reason, even though Anton Mercer is not allowing his son to draw, you can't help but feel maybe he really does care for him, saying he's only raising him as he knows how.

Giving Trent two personalities when he became the White Ranger was the only way to go. He's just not convincing as himself as an evil character, and certainly has nothing motivating him against the Rangers without the powers of the evil White Dino Gem. Doing the voice changing while he's a Ranger is a nice touch.

OFF TARGET

They essentially gave away the plot to the episode in interactive TV guides (the ones on digital cable and satelite, and on online TV guides). My Dish Network guide reads, "Trent finds the White Gem." What has happened to the element of surprise? Over 85% of the people who voted in our poll about Trent becoming the White Ranger knew he would become it way before the episode even aired.

STUFF TO THINK ABOUT

Hasn't the artwork we've seen from Trent been kind of odd?

How come we're beginning to see Dr. Oliver by himself at his home doing something with rocks?

Who quirked out when Mesogog swiped the spider with his tongue?

What was with Devin's suit? Is that the 80's or 1800's?

Can't you just tell that Anton Mercer is hiding something?

Doesn't Kira's new hair-do look really nice?

Did we set a record today for the shortest existence for a monster?

Why would Tommy make a rookie mistake by yelling out his fellow Rangers' name out in public?

Did anyone catch when Tommy said, "Of course, it's been known to happen." referring that HE was an evil Ranger once?

What was Conner talking about when he said, "How are we supposed to fight him when we can't get near him?", because they were close enough to get beat up by him!

Dr. Oliver said they'll find out who the White Ranger is and what he wants, but didn't they already find out what he wants?

So with this new problem, is Dr. Oliver going to be using sick days and/or vacation time?

Is Power Rangers trying to tell us a dragon is a dinosaur?

So Zeltrax did everything to ensure the White Dino Gem would not be interefered with except to watch over it.

No new episode today on ABC Family

Turns out there was no episode today, even though many TV and online cable/satelite listings (including mine) had listed a new episode today.

"White Thunder, Part II" will be aired next Saturday.

EPISODE 10: "OCEAN ALERT" REVIEW
Posted by TimJohnson on
April 11, 2004 @ 3:09 AM

This was an ok episode. Some people will like the fact that it referenced to some past popular shows, but the fact remains that they still have to keep the storyline moving along.

ON TARGET

They did a good job of referencing the beach scenes to Baywatch (a TV show that ran syndicated form 1989 to 2001).

I'm glad Nikki didn't change her ways by the end of the show; it makes me feel better that the people in Dino Thunder don't all have to be perfect.

I like how the Trent/Dr. Mercer storyline is moving along, a little bit each episode.

How they introduced the Stegozord wasn't the most creative, but at least they planted the seeds to introducing the Zord before the Rangers desperately needed it.

OFF TARGET

How weak does it make Tommy and Kira if all Nikki had to do was step on Zeltrax's foot and get lucky to find an invisiportal to escape Mesogog's island, while Kira had to fight her way out and Tommy needed his students to rescue him who had to risk a lot going through the invisiportals.

I really hope they don't abandon the Elsa/Tommy storyline.

I understand now why Zeltrax needs to fight Tommy every episode. The writers don't want Tommy with the monster that gets destroyed each episode, but I'm sure they could find something else for him to do during that time besides fight to a draw with Zeltrax. They did a good job of separating Tommy from the rest of the Rangers in MMPR seasons 2 and 3.

STUFF TO THINK ABOUT

Was anyone thinking this episode would be "Diva in Distress" all over again when Nikki Valentin showed up?

How tough is Hayley to stick up for herself against Nikki?

But how bad will it be for publicity for Hayley's Cyberspace?

When Nikki told Hayley, "There is nothing I can't buy", weren't you thinking, "Well, you couldn't buy a wheat grass milkshake because they ran out!"

So is Ethan's life not complete because he never "met" Nikki Valentin?

Was anyone wondering when Trent said his shift was over, that who or if anybody would be working after him?

Does Tommy do anything now-a-days besides sit in his home looking for dinosaur eggs?

Was anyone thinking Devin was really drowning during the filming?

Did anyone catch the "union rules" line by Nikki? If you follow Power Rangers closely you know why...

Did we really need to see Devin running without his shirt on?

Has this been the longest zord battle yet on Dino Thunder?

Why would Ethan step out in-front of Tommy and catch the egg?

Did anyone think that when Trent's dad was looking at his work, that it was the drawings because he said "figures"?

Was that drawing we saw of Trent's supposed to be for Kira's demo? Because it looked like a guy with a weird shaped mask on.

How did the rashes on Conner and Ethan come off so quickly?

How was Cassidy distracting the actors at the end when the "actors" were clearly performing the scene?

Our site has been down for the last few days because someone hacked our polls so they could send 2000 email spams. I don't know how that could happen but we had to remove the polls for the time being. We'll have the polls hosted on an outside server for the time being which should be up by tommorow morning. Updates tommorow will go uninterrupted; hopefully the site won't go down again.

EPISODE 9: "BENEATH THE SURFACE" REVIEW
Posted by TimJohnson on
April 7, 2004 @ 4:43 AM

Today's (well Saturday's) revealed some things and opened up others things to more inspection. A curve was thrown by revealing that Elsa was Principal Randall, and it appears there's a working relationship brewing between Elsa and Dr. Oliver (I know I should be calling him Tommy on the site).

ON TARGET

I like the creativity in how they brought in the Dimetro Zord. They just didn't send it out there when the Rangers were in trouble like new Zords usually appear.

They're finally going somewhere with the villians, as there appears to be something more to Zeltrax than met the eye the first 7 episodes. There appears to be something between him and Elsa when he told Dr. Oliver during the fight to "stay away from her". Elsa is also going to be something to watch, but Mesogog still needs work.

Showing the Rangers and Dr. Oliver panic when Cassidy said they had "superheroes" in their school was a nice touch, reminding viewers that they still had to keep their identity a secret.

OFF TARGET

I don't like how they've already forgotten that Trent foiled his father's plans. Based on how Anton Mercer has been portrayed, he should have been irate at his son when they spoke in the beginning of the episode. He even told his son he's been working long hours without complaining about it like he did last episode.

We get Dr. Oliver versus Zeltrax, the 11th (or whatever many) battle. If they're gonna keep letting these battles end in draws or having one of them retreat, when will we know when the decisive battle will be or the one that really counts? At least they showed Zeltrax getting some advantage.

STUFF TO THINK ABOUT:

What kind of spaceship shooting game takes 3 hours to get to the 12th level?

And if Conner and Kira wanted to study somewhere quiet, why would they go to a lively place like Hayley's?

What was Ethan going to say about Kira before she stopped him?

Did Anton Mercer already forget what his son did to him last episode?

Since when does a school bus park on a terrain that is not asphalt?

Was that even a flower that Devin was looking at?

I sure hope Dr. Oliver got permission forms because of the Tyranodrones attack, by the way, whatever happened to the Triptoids Zeltrax captured from the Wizardwood game?

Does anyone notice that Dr. Oliver and Elsa have that same goa-tee thing on their chins?

What was Dr. Oliver exactly diving for? Because when he caught Principal Randall, he didn't believe at what had just transpired, and the "Dino Egg" landed way past him?

Wow, wasn't Dr. Oliver's little celebration after defeating the monster, a little, unexpected to say the least?

Was Cassidy's supposed "news story" the first news story she has brought to us all series, to go along with the first of Devin's filming?

Why were the Rangers and Dr. Oliver worried about being shown on TV when they didn't actually morph but just showed advanced fighting moves?

EPISODE 8: "GOLDEN BOY" REVIEW
Posted by TimJohnson on
April 5, 2004 @ 11:36 PM

"Golden Boy" is a solid episode backed with many different things going on. The character of Dr. Anton Mercer was advanced and we go to see more into Elsa and Zeltrax.

ON TARGET

The battle in the beginning seemed pointless to open the show (and it usually does), I'm glad they used it to further the characters of Elsa and Zeltrax.

I'm glad that the writers stuck with Zeltrax's personality and didn't get too mushy with him, instead, having a partership he would usually have with any other monster. The getting on his knees near the end of the episode only shows he's going to use it as an "excuse" to get back at Dr. Oliver. Hopefully, they won't rush to the reason to why he wants revenge on Dr. Oliver.

I like how they leave clues at the end of the episode, to get viewers to tune in next episode to see where it leads.

OFF TARGET

This must be like the 10th battle between Zeltrax and Dr. Oliver. At least there was something added to the rivalry for Zeltrax.

STUFF TO THINK OF:

I asked this last episode, is Trent the only waiter at Hayley's Cyberspace?

Is Cassidy Cornell now with a bunch of "losers" now that she's going to Hayley's Cyberspace? (she called them that last episode on her walk)

Didn't Trent's dad coming in and telling him he wanted him to do something else remind you of Mr. Collins and Wes?

Does Dr. Oliver have problems with enemies showing up when riding his jeep or what?

How many times an episode does Zeltrax teleport away to end a battle?

Boy, doesn't Reefside City Hall, look, well, mediocre? And isn't this the first time we've had a "politician" on Power Rangers?

Have Devin and Cassidy gotten ONE news report yet?

Isn't this the first time Dr. Oliver has left the battle of the two when he and Zeltrax are fighting?

When Hayley's Cyberspace is closed, there were a bunch of bikes. When everyone is there to see Dr. Mercer walk out empty-handed, there were like none!

If Dr. Mercer was rich, wouldn't he say "Bring the limo out here" instead of "car"?

EPISODE 7: "GAME ON" REVIEW
Posted by TimJohnson on
April 5, 2004 @ 10:56 PM

This episode was just another one of those episodes. The purpose of it was to teach Ethan not to "cheat" when playing video games, probably a satire to today's video gamers who use Gamesharks.

ON TARGET

I'm glad they didn't forget about Ethan's hobby of video games. I like how Dr. Oliver teaches the Rangers that they have to keep their heads in the "real game".

The writers make sense of the Raptor Cycles. Since the Rangers don't have teleportation, this makes sense to use the Raptor Cycles to get to their destination fast.

Some don't like the Megazord battles being too short, but Megazord battles shouldn't be the focus of every battle like in Ninja Storm. In the first season of Power Rangers, Megazord battles were generally short; when there were tough enemies to face, the Megazord battles were more eventful (like in Part IV of the Green Ranger series).

OFF TARGET

These Tommy/Zeltrax battles are getting very stale. It's ok if they confront each other every episode and talk a little competition, but to have them fight every episode takes away from the "big fight" (if they should have one) later in the series.

I wasn't too thrilled of Beldorf coming out of the video game. He was just "there" and a waste of space.

I hope the series offers some twist with the villians, because they definitely need a fresh tune-up.

STUFF TO THINK OF:

Is Trent the only waiter at Hayley's Cyberspace?

So getting a code out of a character will only get you an opportunity to test the next game in the series?

Wouldn't somebody find a way to cheat?

Do you think Zeltrax understood the lecture Mesogog gave him about teenagers?

Isn't Zeltrax running away through the invisiportals expected by now everytime he and Dr. Oliver fight?

Aren't we going back to 1st season Power Rangers with Tyranodrone attack distractions?

Spoke to soon about cheating, Ethan waited until closing to get his little "cheat" device out?

Is Hayley telling herself, "I know I'm gonna regret this" a foreshadow to later events?

Was anyone worried Ethan would be on the computer all night like some computer players?

If the place is closed, why would Devin say that they should go in before no one is left when there was clearly nobody in sight (besides Ethan).

If Hayley's Cyberspace was closed, why were there like 10 bikes outside the store?

Isn't Katrina Divine a trooper for getting her face full of mud and letting it dry so it could get in two scenes?

Aren't they supposed to save it for the finale where the Rangers' hangout and base get destroyed or attacked?

Did anyone notice that Hayley's Cyberspace also rents out scooters?

When Hayley said she could send Beldorf back using Ethan's device and Ethan said he did something right, if he had never used the device, they would have never gotten into the mess.

How many chances is Zeltrax gonna get before he is given the boot?

How could there not be any damage in the cafe after the fight with the Triptoids and Conner getting thrown into a wall?

Was Ethan really asking Trent for a smoothie at the end?

I'm on Spring Break now, so that means I can finally do more to update the site.

I tried playing the JETIX card game this weekend. It's a pretty straight-forward game; there are a few bugs in it (at least when I played it) though since it doesn't always update.

There were a TON of former Power Ranger sightings this past week, mainly with the Wild Force Rangers (they had to get off the show to get the spotlight).

The "Never Give Up" team of Danny and Max (Jack Guzman and Phillip Jean Marie) appeared on a TV show and commercial respectively. Jack Guzman played a gay bartender on last Monday's episode of CSI: Miami. I believe that is his second appearance on the show and he is the second Ranger since Archie Kao (Kai in Lost Galaxy) to appear on CSI. Max was in a McDonald's commercial eating the new "white meat" Chicken McNuggets. I believe that's his third commercial he's been in; one with Verizon phones and KFC, and this one.

Melody Perkins (Karone) was also in last Monday's episode of CSI: Miami, but she just played a dead victim.

Jessica Rey (Alyssa Enrile) was on CBS's show, "The Stones", this past week. She played the roll of a clothes salesperson.

Alison MacInnis (Dana Mitchell) was on Average Joe: Adam Returns. She didn't get by Adam picked to go on (what was he thinking?).

A couple of readers brought up the fact that FoxBox has commercials for the Dino Thunder toy line and ABC KIDS does not. I assume that is because ABC KIDS doesn't want any products other than those produced by Disney during their shows.

ABC KIDS airing of "Back in Black" on 3/20 got a 1.2, but it was good enough to tie with Kids WB's Mucha Lucha. Surprsingly, even though Kids WB's rating was higher, ABC KIDS had about 100,000 more viewers than Kids WB. Kids WB is available in more homes than ABC KIDS is (at least for the ratings reports, because ABC stations throughout the country mix up the time slots).

In a somewhat off-topic yet on-topic news item, some of you know Dino Thunder's Kira Ford's "idol" Avril Lavigne and Lizzie McGuire star Hilary Duff are having a war of words. One of my favorite sites WWE.com has a poll seeing who would win if they were to step in a "WWE" ring. Avril is winning by about 30 percent.
