EPISODE #4: "LEGACY OF POWER" REVIEW

It took about 11 years, but we're here at episode 500. Many TV shows don't last this far these days because people easily get tired of a show. For many young people in the world, the only shows they can think of that have lasted more than a decade are The Simpsons and WWE RAW. For a show to last more than a decade shows the commitment and the creativity of the writers to come up with new ideas that appeal to people.

Instead of taking the "Forever Red" approach and making the 500th episode out of the storyline, they tied in the history of the Power Rangers clips with the current storyline, which Dr. Tommy Oliver's "If I should be gone..." tape. There's only 21 minutes, and some important events were left out, but I thought they did a good job of summarizing all of the series. It was a nice touch for long time hardcore fans, and at the same time gave new viewers a history of what the Power Rangers series is.

Here's an estimated breakdown of how much time each series got:

MMPR Seasons 1-3 4 minutes, 11 seconds
ZEO 51 seconds
TURBO 2 minutes, 1 second
IN SPACE 1 minute, 1 second
LOST GALXY 57 seconds
LIGHTSPEED RESCUE 41 seconds
TIME FORCE 1 minute, 8 seconds
WILD FORCE 39 seconds
NINJA STORM 1 minute, 35 seconds

ON TARGET

We finally get a commemorative episode for a milestone. I liked how Dr. Oliver had a video diary explaining his life rather than the episode just being a clip episode and having a host.

I like how we see the three Rangers working together on finding Dr. Oliver, yet, we can still see that they are three different characters.

OFF TARGET

I was disappointed that Hayley is affiliated with the Dino Rangers. It takes away suspense and the element of surprise to the viewers. I also didn't like the fact that she just came out into the base without any "hints" of who she really is.

I don't mind if they leave it important events, but at least they could have included everybody. Even though they showed Tanya, they didn't include the Aisha/Tanya transition. Nor, did they name Joel (for whatever reason). Also, Magna Defender and Phantom Ranger were never introduced; they were very important in their respective series.

UNANSWERED AND RHETORICAL QUESTIONS

Was anyone worried that the 500th episode of Power Rangers was mainly going to have Mesogog in it?

And was anyone also worried that Mesogog was going to make Dr. Oliver into an evil Ranger when Dr. Oliver was strapped down?

Is Mesogog the most charismatic villian ever on Power Rangers?

Wouldn't it have been fun to see "More dinosaur bone stories?" with Dr. Oliver?

Is anyone surprised that Connor didn't go nuts when Kimberly showed up on the screen?

Was anyone's ears hurting when you heard Jason's "hyahs"? (if you don't know, that's not Austin St. John's voice)

Wasn't the White Ranger taking his helmet off, revealing him as Tommy one of the great moments in Power Rangers?

Does anyone really think of Dr. Oliver as a "rocket scientist"?

Wasn't Tommy supposed to be a race car driver?

Was anyone jumping out of their seats when Aisha, Adam, and Rocky recieved their powers? (well, at least Aisha and Rocky?)

Wasn't it great to see Ninjor again? (even though next Sunday's Best of Power Rangers is the "Ninja Quest" series)

Did anyone notice that when the Rangers were about to fall in the center after the Command Center explosion, that the Rangers' feet were stuck on the ground by energy, yet Billy, was moving all over the place?

I think they left out Billy throwing a fit when he was not going to become a ZEO Ranger during the ZEO era of Dr. Oliver's diary.

Did anyone hear during when the Gold Ranger was introduced, that it was Trey's voice and not Jason's?

Was anyone about to turn the TV off when Justin appeared and said, "Guys, I'm the new Blue Ranger!"

When Tommy got kidnapped by the Pirhanatrons, don't you feel bad, that in every series he's been in, he's been kidnapped in some sort of way?
Here's a lowdown:
Season 1 MMPR: Rita kidnaps him to make him the Green Ranger
Season 2 MMPR: Goldar brings him to another world to fight him
Season 3 MMPR: Tommy's clone knocks him out and sends his friends to the 1800's, making Tommy by himself
ZEO: The Machine Empire kidnapps Tommy for no reason and makes him King
TURBO: Tommy is ambushed in his jeep and knocked unconscious; he is then dragged by a monster and nearly falls to his doom
DINO THUNDER: Dr. Oliver is taken by Tyranodrones

Did they purposely leave out Joel in the Lightspeed part because he blatantly refused to be a Ranger at first (I remember one quote by Joel: "I heard you out, I think you're nuts, I'm outta here!")

Wasn't the "Why can't you just want to rule the world" quote by Dr. Oliver, LOL funny?

Did anyone catch Kira calling her teacher, "Tommy", in-between the Time Force scenes?

Didn't the "so we could watch it all over again" quote by Connor after seeing Dr. Oliver being kidnapped make anyone burst out laughing?

Wasn't it fitting during the Wild Force part, that it focused mainly on Cole and Merrick, as being the two that beat the Orgs?

Doesn't it just give a lot away when Connor said "Ninja Storm", then some background music from Ninja Storm playing?

Boy, is anyone dying to know who Connor's twin brother is?

Isn't it nice to see Dustin again ("Power Rangers ARE real!")

Was anyone hoping a scene with Marah would be included so we could yell out, "THAT'S CASSIDY CORNELL!"

Why did Ninja Storm get the third most time during Dr. Oliver's diary when it aired just last year and is still airing today?

Does anyone think Ethan is as goofy as Dustin when he said, "Ninjas are real, I knew it!"

Wasn't Connor's kick that almost shut down the computer the best fighting move yet in Dino Thunder?

Boy, does anyone hope that Mesogog is defeated soon so that we can get another vilian?

Took awhile, but we got all the files to say "1RANGER.com" at the top instead of "Power Rangers 2K4, Power Rangers 2K3, or even Power Rangers 2K2". We were running out of old space and the domain name was way outdated, so we moved here. Hope you enjoy it. We'll get to updating some of the old news and adding it here.
