It didn't take long but Power Rangers appears to be back. Haim Saban has just bought the rights to Power Rangers back from Disney. Disney purchased the rights to the Power Ranger series back in 2001. During that time it looked like a great move, with Disney's branding power the series could take new heights but that never came. Power Rangers did have a great start in the beginning, with much of the series being broadcast on ABC Family, including several marathon days. But slowly the old ABC Family was fizzled out and Power Rangers was relegated to ABC Kids, which did not have a congruent schedule in all cities, and some ABC stations chose to not air (and still do today) the show. Some of the 701 episodes of Power Rangers will see the light of day again on Nick Toons, hopefully not including the Disney refurbished MMPR Season 1 episodes. Supposedly they will start airing later this year. Apparently a new series according to several articles will also be produced for Nick Toons in 2001. I'm going to guess the Sentai series Shinkenger will be skipped mainly due to the immense swordplay involved. The Power Rangers television show first broadcasted on August 28th, 1993 on the Fox Kids Network. Since then, it has been one of the current longest running TV franchises on television. and continues on to today 1RANGER.com Newswire |
